In a time where change is the only constant, how can art intervene in the tumult, capture fleeting moments, or help us escape from the incessant flow? Flow brings together artists working across textile, drawing, painting, and sculpture. Each artwork presented responds to flow differently; from documenting the motions of historic forces, to nurturing free flowing motion, to transfixing flux into static form. We convene this show within Fleet Studios, itself in flux, facing redevelopment as flows of capital permeate the area. The gallery stands above the submerged Fleet River, one of London’s “lost rivers” since converted into municipal sewers. As time washes over us, residual hints of the past linger through names, sediment and folklore. In time, the works shown here will also disperse, entering the flow.
